ODEP should develop and create meaningful apprenticeships and trauma-informed job training programs that are geared to working with immigrant survivors of trauma who are dealing with the real implication of past violence in the workplace. Not only would a program like this support survivors while they wait for immigration relief so that they are better equipped to engage in the workforce upon receipt of a T-visa, but it would also take specific consideration of the many manifestations of trauma that may hinder future employment, help survivors navigate triggers, and think clearly about industries and environments that may be appropriate and fair moving forward.
